Chase Elliott blogs about strong start to 2012 season

I’m pumped to report that my team was able to start the season off right with a win during the SpeedFest Pro Late Model event at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Ga., recently. While we came out on top and were able to take the pole position, it was no easy race. Two cars spun out during the white flag lap, making it a challenge for me to roll through Turn 4.
All I had to do was stay focused, though, and soon enough we were celebrating in Victory Lane. That race was a lot of fun, and I’m sure it was a great finish for everyone to watch.
SpeedFest was just the beginning; there are a lot of races on my schedule this year, and I can’t wait to get started. We gained so much momentum at the end of last season after we finished third at Phoenix in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West event.
We have an exciting addition to our team this year – crew chief Lance McGrew. He’s won races at every level in NASCAR, including the 2003 NASCAR Nationwide Series title with Brian Vickers at Hendrick Motorsports. We seem to communicate really well in just the first few weeks of getting together. Ricky Turner will stay my crew chief when I’m racing late models, but Lance will help us on the NASCAR level.
I’ll be running full-time in the K&N East series this year, and our season officially gets started on March 17 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. I raced at Bristol about two years ago and having experience there will help the process go smoothly. Instead of spending time getting used to the racetrack, we can start making changes to the car to get better faster. My team and I will be testing there on Feb. 27, and I know we’re all looking forward to that. It will be a great opportunity for our team to see what the car is capable of and what kind of changes we need to make.
Don’t forget to follow me on twitter this year at @ChaseElliott, and I look forward to seeing y’all at the races.
