CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 20, 2002)—For the third consecutive year, the Hendrick Marrow Program will partner with local television station NBC6 to provide a free opportunity for Charlotte, N.C.-area residents to become a part of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), a nationwide network of people willing to donate healthy bone marrow to patients in need.
The 10th Annual NBC6 Marrowthon will be held simultaneously in eight locations on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. EDT:
Charlotte—Founder’s Hall, SouthPark Mall and Eastland Mall
Concord, N.C.—Concord Mills Mall
Gastonia, N.C.—Gaston Mall
Monroe, N.C.—Monroe Aquatic and Fitness Center
Shelby, N.C.—Cleveland Mall
Statesville, N.C.—Signal Hill Mall
Registering for the NMDP involves a quick registration, small blood sample and the completion of a consent form. Volunteer donors must be in good health and between the ages of 18 and 60.
Best of all, no needles are used in the procedure. An easy prick of the finger is all that’s necessary to quickly draw the amount of blood needed for typing.
Founded by Rick Hendrick in 1997, the Hendrick Marrow Program raises funds to promote bone marrow donor drives, while providing assistance to transplant patients and their families.
