CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 15, 2002)—David Green made the most of his first race with Hendrick Motorsports, earning a fifth-place finish in Saturday’s Little Trees 300 NASCAR Busch Series event at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Driving the No. 5 Chevrolet in place of Ricky Hendrick, the former Busch Series champion brought Team GMAC its best finish of the year after starting 19th. It was Green’s first top-five of the 2002 season in just seven starts.

“This was such a tremendous performance by Team GMAC,” Green said. “I feel like I can hardly take the credit for the top-five finish. This is Team GMAC’s best finish of the year and my personal best in a long time and I really can’t say enough about this team, they really dig down deep.

“These guys are so committed, I am really proud to be a part of it. It is so good to know that with the right team and the right equipment I can still get it done on the race track.”

Three-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Jack Sprague started from the sixth position in the No. 24 NetZero Chevy, only to lose an engine and finish a disappointing 25th. The veteran completed 189 of 200 possible laps, earning 88 championship points.

Sprague is currently fourth in the overall driver standings, 474 markers behind leader Greg Biffle.

The NASCAR Busch Series will next visit Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park for the Sam’s Town 250. Live coverage of the event will be carried on NBC and MRN Radio at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 19.
