Green Earns Another Top-10 Finish
- Oct 22, 2002
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 22, 2002)—David Green earned his second top-10 finish in as many starts behind the wheel of the No. 5 GMAC Chevrolet on Sunday in the rain-delayed Sam’s Town 250 NASCAR Busch Series event at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park.
“Today really shows how good this team is,” Green said. “I was overwhelmed in Charlotte because we had everything thrown at us and it just came together. We were good that whole weekend and ended the day with a top-five finish.
“When we got here to Memphis we didn’t quite have the right setup when we unloaded and this team dug deep making solid changes and we came through by qualifying well. Our final practice time wasn’t what we wanted and I didn’t sleep well (Saturday) night, but the guys of Team GMAC made more changes and they handed me a great race car today.”
Green finished ninth after qualifying 11th in just his second start in place of Ricky Hendrick, who ended his career as a full-time driver earlier this month.
Three-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Jack Sprague fought handling problems all afternoon on Sunday, finishing 18th at Memphis after starting two spots behind Green in 13th.
Sprague remains fourth in the Busch Series driver standings, 436 points behind leader Greg Biffle.
Scott Wimmer earned his second victory of 2002, beating out Stacy Compton and Jamie McMurray for the win.
The Busch Series will next visit Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Aaron’s 312. Scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET start, the event will be broadcast live by TNT and PRN.
