NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 11, 2003) – Driving the No. 87 ditech.com Chevrolet, Kyle Busch turned in a dominating performance at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, leading 84 of 113 laps on his way to winning the PFG Lester 150 ARCA Series event on Friday.
In his first race with Hendrick Motorsports, the 17-year-old beat out veteran driver Frank Kimmel (second) and Brent Sherman (third) for his first career ARCA win.
“I was so impressed with the way Kyle handled himself during tonight’s race,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “I could swear he’s 26 and not 17. He was so calm and cool inside that car, even with the veteran Fran Kimmel chasing him on the restarts.
“This is just great for this team and we’re so glad to have Kyle on board.”
Busch, who started from the pole position, led every practice session at Nashville this week before going to Victory Lane on Friday night.
“I couldn’t be any happier with how this weekend went,” Busch said. “From the time we unloaded until the checkered flag flew, we were fast. To win my first race out with Hendrick Motorsports and newly signed ditech.com as a sponsor—it’s unbelievable.
“If this is any indication as to how things are going to go from here on out, I don’t want to miss a thing.”
Busch’s next ARCA start will be at Kentucky Speedway on May 10, the second of seven scheduled events on the circuit in 2003.
