Gordon to Start Third in Pepsi 400

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 2003) – Jeff Gordon qualified third for Saturday’s Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway, leading Hendrick Motorsports in Friday’s NASCAR Winston Cup Series time trials.
The four-time Winston Cup champion posted a 184.498-mph speed (48.781 seconds) in the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet and was the pole-sitter for more than an hour before being supplanted.
Jimmie Johnson will start 11th in the No. 48 Lowe’s Monte Carlo, followed by Joe Nemechek, driver of the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy, in 20th.
David Green, piloting the No. 60 HAAS Automation Chevy, earned the 21st position, while Terry Labonte was 25th in the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Chevrolet.
At 184.752 mph (48.714 seconds), Steve Park earned the pole position, his second of 2003.
