WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 8, 2003) – Jeff Gordon earned his second pole position of the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season on Friday, pacing time trials at Watkins Glen International.
Driving the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, the four-time Winston Cup champion was clocked at 124.580 mph on the 2.45-mile road course. He has four career victories at Watkins Glen—the most of any driver.
The last time Gordon started from the pole, he also won the race, visiting Victory Lane at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on April 13.
Gordon’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates—Terry Labonte, Jimmie Johnson and Joe Nemechek—will start Sunday’s event 19th, 20th and 21st, respectively.
