Gordon Earns Third Pole of ’03 at Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 22, 2003) – Jeff Gordon earned his third pole position of the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, posting a speed of 127.597 mph—a new track record.
The four-time Winston Cup champion, who has also earned poles at Martinsville, Va., and Watkins Glen, N.Y., this season, will start first in Saturday’s Sharpie 500, marking his third pole at Bristol and the 45th of his career.
Terry Labonte will start 13th, followed by Jimmie Johnson in 16th and Joe Nemechek in 38th.
