DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2004) – Jeff Gordon posted the fourth-quickest time in Friday’s second Daytona 500 practice, driving his No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet to a 191.522-mph lap around the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway.
Terry Labonte was 12th in the session, followed by rookie Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 25 GMAC Financial Services Monte Carlo, in 23rd.
Jimmie Johnson was 26th in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy.
Driving the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet, Labonte was seventh in the first of Friday’s two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series practices at 190.496 mph. He was followed by Vickers, who was 29th.
Johnson and Gordon each sat out the first round, electing to log 43 combined laps in the late practice.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was quickest early at 192.012 mph, while Kevin Lepage paced the second session 191.881 mph.
