Gordon Takes Second at New Hampshire

LOUDON, N.H. (July 26, 2004) – Jeff Gordon and the No. 24 DuPont team finished second in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday. Gordon started the race in 24th position and worked his way up to the front to challenge eventual race winner Kurt Busch for the lead. “It was a great day for us,” Gordon said. “I tell you what, when they dropped the green flag I thought we had something for 'em. We just got loose in and really couldn't get on top of it all day. But I'll tell you what, a second place finish makes me really proud of the DuPont Chevrolet team.” Teammate Jimmie Johnson brought the Team Lowe’s Racing Chevy home in 11th position. With only seven races remaining until the start of the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup, Johnson holds a 165-point lead over second-place Dale Earnhardt Jr. Piloting the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet, Terry Labonte crossed the finish line in 16th position. The run moved Labonte up one position in the point standings to 20th. Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 25 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolets, ended the race in 34th position. The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series will next visit Pocono Raceway for the Pennsylvania 500 on Sunday, Aug. 1. Live Coverage will begin at 1 p.m. ET on TNT and MRN Radio.
