New Shop Set to Open Soon

Construction on the newest addition to the Hendrick Motorsports complex is just about complete and the teams are preparing to move into their new home.

The facility, which is nearly a mirror image of the No. 24 DuPont and No. 48 Lowe’s team shop will be the new home of the No.5 Kellogg’s Racing team of rookie Kyle Busch, the No. 25 GMAC Racing team of driver Brian Vickers and will also house the part-time No. 44 Kellogg’s Racing entry of veteran Terry Labonte.
Construction broke ground on the state-of-the-art facility early in the spring of 2004, and will wrap up at the end of January.

The building is set on five acres of land adjacent to Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson’s shop, and is approximately 85,000 square feet. Besides housing the Nos. 5 , 25 and No.44 NEXTEL operations, the new addition will also contain the executive offices for Hendrick Motorsports.

The 5/25/44 shop will house its own fabrication and machine shop, parts department, paint booths, shock assembly area and engineering department, in addition to offices for crew chiefs and team managers.

The building has indoor areas to house the teams’ race transporters, as well as driver and crew chief motor coaches.

For NASCAR fans, the newest addition to the Hendrick complex offeres the same type of fan viewing experience as the 24/48 shop. Visitors will be able to peer into the main shop areas and take in the teams’ trophy gallery that will be on display in the main lobby.
