LAS VEGAS (Nov. 3, 2005) – The Specialty Equipment Market Association trade show set the stage for an unprecedented union of automotive star power and horsepower as car designer Chip Foose, DuPont Automotive Finishes, Hendrick Motorsports and Action Performance Companies Inc. debuted a special edition No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a Foose-designed DuPont Hot Hues paint scheme.

Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, who was on hand for the car’s SEMA premiere, will pilot the “hot” machine during the 500-mile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at California Speedway in February 2006.
During the unveiling, staged at the DuPont Hot Hues booth in the Hot Rod Alley section of the SEMA show, Foose explained how he used a combination of DuPont Hot Hues paints—primarily Blackened (Hot Hues No. 759196) and Starry Night (Hot Hues No. 754870)—to create the base striped color scheme that serves as the foundation of the “Heat Waves and Flames” design. The car also incorporates the following Hot Hues colors as accents: Snow Storm, Atomic Tangerine, Lemon Glow, Dragon Fire and Sassy Orchid.
“I try to be original and innovative in all of my designs, and, with this race car, I wanted to create a truly unique representation of speed and power,” said Foose, an award-winning car designer whose custom creations are made for private individuals, television, film and automobile manufacturers. “The heat waves and flames are reminiscent of the heat that radiates off of race motors and asphalt.”
For Gordon, the Foose-designed car offers the opportunity to showcase his longtime sponsor in a unique way.
“Cars obviously play a big part in my life,” he said. “This project unites some of my favorite interests: custom cars, cool paint schemes and racing. I have been with DuPont for many years, and I’m glad they have responded to the custom paint industry needs with a dedicated brand of premium custom finishes.”
Action Performance, the leader in licensed motor sports merchandise, was instrumental in generating this multi-brand merger of industry powerhouses. Action will produce die-cast replica versions of the elaborate No. 24 DuPont Hot Hues Heat Waves & Flames 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in a variety of prized collector scales. Each of the collectibles will feature the corresponding DuPont Hot Hues paints and Heat Waves and Flames design, as seen on the full-size race car.
“Chip Foose is well known for his artistry and innovation, and he has produced yet another amazing-looking machine to add to his extensive repertoire of custom vehicles” said Fred Wagenhals, Action Performance’s chairman, president and CEO. “Once race fans see the car in action, with Jeff Gordon behind the wheel, it should be an image they will not soon forget.”
