Kyle Busch Excited About Season Start, Thunderbird Flight

CONCORD, N.C. (March 15, 2007) - Kyle Busch is excited about the way his Kellogg’s/CARQUEST Chevrolet team has performed in the 2007 NEXTEL Cup season thus far.
Busch has posted top-10 finishes in two of the year’s first three races.
“It’s been a great start to the year for the No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST Chevrolet team,” Busch said. “I think we’ve worked as hard as anyone out there and if anyone deserves to win it’s the No. 5 team.
“We’ve got a lot of depth on our team and we’ve led laps every week so far. That says a lot with how competitive the NEXTEL Cup Series is. It gets harder to win one of these races every week and I feel like we’re right on the verge.”
The team is coming off a ninth-place effort at Las Vegas and goes into this weekend’s event at Atlanta Motor Speedway seventh in the championship standings.
Busch’s top-10 effort at Vegas wasn’t his only excitement last week. He also had the opportunity to fly in an F-16 fighter jet with the Air Force Thunderbirds prior to the race at his hometown track.
“Flying in an F-16 was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done,” Busch said. “I rode with Major Rob ‘Red’ Skelton in the No. 7 jet and we went out to the restricted air space in Death Valley, Calif.
“We did some maneuvers and then went into a dive where we pulled 9.1 G’s (G-force). Then we went back and pulled 9.3 G’s the second time. Not many people in this world have pulled that many G’s and I consider myself lucky to have had that experience.
“I’ve always had a lot of respect for the men and women serving our country, but getting to see everything that close really opened my eyes.”
