CONCORD, N.C. (June 21, 2007) — Casey Mears and the No. 25 National Guard/GMAC team are welcoming the summer with a hot streak.
Mears has posted three top-five finishes in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series in the past four races, including his win at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in May.
The top-five streak has propelled the team an impressive 16 positions in the Cup Series point standings, moving Mears from 35th to 19th in four weeks.
The advances the team has made are coming at the right time—just 10 races before NASCAR’s “Chase for the Championship” begins.
“We’ve really been hitting our stride over the past month,” Mears said. “I thought getting into the top 15 would be a great comeback for the No. 25 National Guard /GMAC Chevrolet team.
“We’ve got three top-fives in the last four races and if we can stay on that path, I think we’ll have a shot—even if it’s a long one. Our goal is to just keep reeling off some top-fives and top-10s all the way up until the Chase and then hopefully be within striking distance with a couple to go.”
Mears and the No. 25 team can continue to make up ground on the Cup field this weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Mears has competed four times at the 1.99-mile road course and has posted a career-best finish of seventh there in 2004.
