Earnhardt hopes for good showing at Pocono

LONG POND, Pa. (June 6, 2008)—Dale Earnhardt Jr. will make his 17th start at Pocono Raceway this weekend, and the driver of the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet can anticipate some extra support since the race is close to the PepsiCo’s hometown of Purchase, N.Y. Many employees plan to make the roughly two-hour drive to watch Earnhardt attempt to dominate the 2.5-mile triangular track.
Earnhardt is hoping to improve upon his most recent outing at Pocono. In 2007, he earned a pole and finished second in that same race. Earnhardt has recorded a total of four top-five finishes and five top-10s in 16 starts at the Pennsylvania track.
It also helps that the No. 88 team tested at Pocono just last week.
“We were real fast during the test, and Dale Jr. was really happy with the car.” crew chief Tony Eury Jr. said, “I think we should have a good race.”
