Lampe honored by CBJ as CFO of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 5, 2010) – Hendrick Motorsports’ Scott Lampe was honored Thursday by the Charlotte Business Journal as CFO of the Year in the large private company category.

Lampe, vice president and chief financial officer of Hendrick Motorsports, was one of eight CFOs honored during the publication’s luncheon on Thursday at the Hilton Charlotte Center City hotel. Nominees were accepted throughout Charlotte’s 16-county region and evaluated by Financial Executives International. The Charlotte Business Journal will feature a special report on the honorees in its Friday edition.

“This is a tremendous honor for both Scott and Hendrick Motorsports,” said Marshall Carlson, president of Hendrick Motorsports. “Scott does such a great job of maintaining our financial focus while equipping our company as we pursue wins and championships. He has played a key role in our accomplishments, and I can’t think of anybody more deserving of this award.”

Lampe oversees the aviation, information technology, facilities, finance and human resources departments for Hendrick Motorsports, which has earned five of its nine NASCAR Sprint Cup Series titles since he arrived in 1999. Since joining Hendrick, Lampe has employed different software programs and initiatives to add value and business discipline to the organization without hampering the competitive spirit that makes the company work.

“It’s a delicate balance,” Lampe said. “We measure success by championships and wins rather than our financial bottom line, so whatever cost-cutting avenues we implement require that constant perspective. Our industry is kind of an anomaly in that regard, so that makes it even more humbling to be recognized as CFO of the Year among large private companies.  This is truly an honor.”

Since 2005, Lampe has represented Hendrick Motorsports on the Cabarrus Economic Development Corporation board of directors. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and appeared on the August 2007 cover of “CFO” magazine. In 2008, Lampe was invited to join the Business Advisory Council for the School of Business at Appalachian State.
