DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Sunday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway, 17 drivers went head-to-head in The Clash.
Among the competitors in the annual exhibition race were two Hendrick Motorsports teammates – Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson.
With the action picking up on the final lap, both Elliott and Johnson were caught up in a multiple-car incident just before the checkered flag waved.
Ultimately, Johnson was scored 12th, with Elliott right behind him in 13th.

Below is a closer look at how the Hendrick Motorsports teammates fared in Sunday’s 75-lap exhibition.
CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 MOUNTAIN DEW CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1
FINISHED: 13th
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After starting 12th, Elliott started an inside lane on Lap 9 and jumped up to second.
- On Lap 10, took the race lead for the first time. He led a total of 17 laps in the race.
- After losing the lead following a competition caution, he fell back outside of the top 10 as the field went single-file with less than 25 laps to go.
- With six laps remaining, Elliott had worked his way back up to ninth and was looking to climb back toward the front.
- On the final lap, Elliott was caught up in a multiple-car incident to finish 13th.
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S FOR PROS CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1
FINISHED: 12th
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Starting fifth, Johnson fell back in the pack outside of the top 15 early in the race.
- On Lap 19, Johnson climbed back inside the top 10.
- Johnson was penalized for driving through too many pit boxes entering his stall during the competition caution, sending him back to 15th for the ensuing restart.
- He recovered from the penalty to race back into fourth place with less than 30 laps to go.
- As he looked to race his way forward on the final lap, Johnson was contacted from behind by a competitor and caught up in a multiple-car incident. He was scored 12th.
