CONCORD, N.C. – With the NASCAR Cup Series back in full swing for the 2018 season, Jeff Gordon is back in the booth as an analyst for FOX Sports.

During the week of the Daytona 500, the four-time Cup Series champion sat down with Nate Ryan for the NASCAR on NBC podcast to catch up on a few topics, including his upcoming NASCAR Hall of Fame candidacy.

Gordon was humbled, as well emotional at the thought of induction.

“When I start reliving how special my career has been and what this has been like for me, I get extremely emotional, and it’s no secret,” Gordon chuckled.

Though he stepped away from the race car after the 2015 season, the former driver of the No. 24 car still has an active role with Hendrick Motorsports. Gordon wears several hats for the organization, including co-owner, and he’s always looking to get involved in any way that he can.

“It’s a fascinating amount of knowledge that I’ve been able to gain about the sport from the business side of it, and then bringing the experience I had behind the wheel,” Gordon said. “I’m loving it. I’m still able to be a part of the sport in the level that I am; talk about it, share my experiences.”

Gordon also touched on his kids and their racing careers, the first time he met Rick Hendrick even weighs in on the youth movement in the sport.
