SONOMA, Calif. – Sunday afternoon just before he took on Sonoma Raceway, Jimmie Johnson was presented with a very special honor.
Bryson Byrnes presented Johnson with the fourth annual Byrnsie Award in honor of his late father, Steve Byrnes.
The award was established to celebrate an individual in the NASCAR Cup Series who showcases the same principles Byrnes embodied — preparation, teamwork and family within the garage area.
This year, it was Johnson who fit the bill.
“I am just blown away by this,” Johnson said. “Thank you to everybody involved. This means the world to me and I will do my best to continue to smile and carry on that Byrnes tradition.”
