FONTANA, Calif. – Sunday’s race in Fontana, California, has 60 laps down and Chase Elliott is currently leading the Hendrick Motorsports teammates.
After rolling off the grid in 13th, Elliott worked his way toward the front of the pack and finished Stage 1 in third place. He picked up eight extra points.
Kasey Kahne was the next teammate to take the green-checkered flag just outside of the top 10 in 11th place.
Starting from the back of the pack did not stop Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. from moving through the field. Earnhardt finished Stage 1 in 17th place and Johnson followed in 20th.
Kyle Larson earned the Stage 1 win.
Stage 2 will consist of another 60 laps before the final 80-lap segment.
