LOUDON, N.H. -- After the first 75 laps at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, two Hendrick Motorsports teammates were inside the top 10.

Kasey Kahne led the way with a sixth-place finish in Stage 1, picking up five extra points for the result.

Next to take the green-checkered flag was Chase Elliott, who crossed the finish line in 10th to cap off Stage 1.

The result earned him one extra point.

Jimmie Johnson began the race on the outside pole but was assessed a start violation. That meant a pass-through penalty that sent Johnson back to the rear of the field when he returned to the track, though he was able to remain on the lead lap.

He recovered to finish Stage 1 in 12th.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. joined him inside the top 20, finishing Stage 1 in 18th.

Stage 2 consists of another 75 laps before the final 151-lap segment.
