CONCORD, N.C. – Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s love of man’s best friend is no secret.

So with a little inspiration from Gus and Junebug, Chicagoland Speedway will honor of Earnhardt’s final race at the Illinois racetrack by partnering with PAWS Chicago, a Chicago-based animal shelter, and hold a donation drive over the course of its three-day race weekend.

With the aftermath of hurricanes Harvey and Irene leaving thousands of animals in need of emergency sheltering, PAWS Chicago has created a rescue effort to evacuate animals from areas of impact. As a result, the shelter is in need of supplies, such as wet dog and cat food, kitty litter, nylon leashes and collars.

Not only will Chicagoland Speedway make a monetary contribution to PAWS Chicago, but all supplies collected on site will be donated in Earnhardt’s name. Fans are encouraged to bring donations to any of the four races during the weekend of Sept. 14-17. Donations can be received at the Raceway Ministries Tent on the northwest corner of the midway.
