JOLIET, Ill. – Chase Elliott led the Hendrick Motorsports qualifying effort in Friday evening's session.

Elliott advanced to the final round and will start the first race of the playoffs on the fourth row in eighth.

Teammates Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. made it to the second round and will roll off the grid in 14th and 20th, respectively.

“Starting in the seventh row is a lot better than where we started here recently,” Johnson said. “If we can move forward like we typically do in the race and get up in the top 10, top five it can completely change the outcome of the race and get momentum going the right way for us.”

Kasey Kahne did not advance past the first round of qualifying and will start Sunday’s race in 25th.

Kyle Busch captured the pole. Sunday’s race is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
