CONCORD, N.C. – Thursday evening at Charlotte Motor Speedway, William Byron led his Hendrick Motorsports teammates in qualifying.
Byron advanced to the second round, but a tight-handling race car kept the driver from moving on to the final round. Byron will start Sunday’s race in 21st.
Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson joined their teammate in Round 2 of the session and will roll off the gird 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
Alex Bowman will start the event in 27th after not advancing past the first round.
Kyle Busch won the pole.
