CONCORD, N.C. – NBC Sports' Nate Ryan recently visited the Hendrick Motorsports campus to catch up with Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick and record the latest edition of the "NASCAR on NBC" podcast.

Ryan toured Hendrick's collection of more than 200 cars, unique music memorabilia and exhibits representing special memories from his journey from childhood to today.

“That building is a timeline of my life,” Hendrick said.

For Hendrick, honoring those who have meant so much to him is important, too.

“I did that building based on paying tribute to my family,” the owner said. “I thought, I’m going to be able to go in here and think about all of my family members that aren’t here anymore, remember and acknowledge. Don’t ever forget where you came from.”

It also helps Hendrick reflect on Hendrick Motorsports’ beginnings in 1984, when the organization was founded. From five employees then to more than 600 today, he credits each one for the organization’s sustained success.

“The success of any company, I don’t care if you’re in racing or you’re in the automobile business or you’re running restaurants, it’s all about people,” he said.

And when it comes to on-track performance in 2018, Hendrick said he knows more success is in store for the organization with continued hard work.

“I feel like we've got the best effort, organization, people working together in the face of not being as successful as we want to be,” he said. “But we’ll get there, and that’s what I tell the folks. Surrendering is not in our book.”
