HAMPTON, Ga. – Georgia native Chase Elliott will have a solid starting position at Atlanta Motor Speedway after persistent rain on Friday canceled NASCAR Cup Series practice and forced updates to the weekend schedule.

Elliott, driver of the No. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, will start sixth in Sunday’s race at his home track. He will be followed by Hendrick Motorsports teammates Alex Bowman in 11th, William Byron in 12th and Kyle Larson in 21st. Chase Briscoe will start first.

The lineup was set by the NASCAR rulebook.

Because of the inclement weather, NASCAR elected to move practice to Saturday at 12:40 p.m. ET (FOX Sports 1) and cancel Cup Series qualifying. The change will give teams needed prep time on the newly repaved and reconfigured 1.54-mile oval.

Hendrick Motorsports holds the record with 14 Atlanta wins and is nearing the track record for laps led. The organization is also three away from its milestone 100th top-10 finish there.

The weather forecast for the remainder of the weekend is calling for mild temperatures and sunshine in the Atlanta area. Sunday’s Cup Series event will air live at 3 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
