CONCORD, N.C. - The NASCAR Cup Series will travel to WWT Raceway for the first time in series history for this weekend's 300-mile race.

The 1.25-mile track located outside of St. Louis in Madison, Illinois, will host the 15th event on the 2022 Cup regular season schedule.

New tracks on the Cup Series schedule have brought great results for Hendrick Motorsports recently. The team has won four of the last six races on tracks making their first start in the top series with Chase Elliott winning at Road America and Circuit of The Americas in 2021 as well as the Daytona Road Course in 2020. Kyle Larson won the first Cup event at Nashville Superspeedway last summer in his championship season.

This is also the first race in Illinois since the 2019 race at Chicagoland Speedway. That was won by Alex Bowman for his first career Cup win, which came when he was driving the No. 88.

The quartet of Hendrick Motorsports drivers enter this weekend in the top-10 in points. Elliott is atop the standings with a 34-point lead over Ross Chastain, William Byron sits in seventh, Bowman ranks eighth and Larson is ninth. Only Byron has a NASCAR national series start to his name at WWT Raceway, which came in a 2016 Camping World Truck Series race.
