CONCORD, N.C. – Alex Bowman’s bid to reach the main feature of the 2023 Chili Bowl Nationals saw him get to the D Main of the event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bowman finished fifth in Saturday’s E Main to advance on to the D Main but could not move on from there.

The NASCAR Cup Series driver for Hendrick Motorsports had a busy week. He won his first heat race on Tuesday night. Bowman's third-place run in the fourth of four qualifying races (thanks to the formula and passing points) helped position him for a start inside the top four for the night’s featured race.

However, an incident early in the night’s main event between Bowman and Daison Pursley ended his night. The result left him heading to the E Main in Saturday’s "Alphabet Soup" ahead of the championship event that evening.

On Monday, he ran in the 25-lap Invitational Race of Champions, where he finished 12th.

This year’s Chili Bowl Nationals marked the seventh time that the Tucson, Arizona, native competed in the event as a driver. He also wore the dual hat of being a team owner as Alex Bowman Racing fielded three entries with Bowman in the 55X car, Jake Swanson in the 55A entry and C.J. Leary in the 55V. Ally, which is Bowman’s primary partner in the Cup Series, was a partner for the three Chili Bowl entries.
