CONCORD, N.C. -- Kyle Larson returned to a rousing welcome at his old stomping grounds. The driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro was honored by his hometown of Elk Grove, California, after he won the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series championship two weeks ago.

Nov. 22 became “Kyle Larson Day” in Elk Grove as Larson took part in a parade and celebration paying tribute to his successful year on the track. Larson won the 2021 title on Nov. 7 after he took the checkered flag at Phoenix Raceway, marking his first Cup Series championship and the record-extending 14th title for Hendrick Motorsports.

“This is pretty overwhelming, thanks to each and every one of you,” Larson told the cheering crowd.

Sonoma Raceway, Larson’s hometown track, helped put together the event. Larson won his first road course race of his Cup career at Sonoma in June of this year after he led 57 of the 92 laps.

Later Monday night, Larson traveled to Sacramento, California, for courtside seats as the Sacramento Kings took on the Philadelphia 76ers.
