CONCORD, N.C. - The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season will come to a close with Sunday's championship race at Phoenix Raceway.

William Byron and Kyle Larson will be competing to try and win the series-best 15th Cup Series championship for Hendrick Motorsports. Class of 2024 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Jimmie Johnson is tied for the most championships in series history with seven (2006-10, 2013 and 2016). Team vice chairman and NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon won four titles (1995, 1997-98 and 2001). Terry Labonte (1996), Chase Elliott (2020) and Larson (2021) have each won a championship for team owner Rick Hendrick.

At Phoenix, the organization has 13 wins, with Byron earning the victory in the most recent race at the 1-mile track in March. Larson (2021) and Elliott (2020) each won the championship race at the Arizona venue.

Larson will have the HendrickCars.com paint scheme on the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. His 2021 win at Phoenix came in the championship race, which is also the only other year he qualified for the Championship 4. All four of Larson's points-paying victories this season, including his win in the spring Martinsville race, have come with HendrickCars.com as the primary partner.

Elliott will carry the colors of NAPA Auto Parts on the No. 9 Chevy. The 27-year-old driver has one win at Phoenix and his 546 laps led are the second-most for him at any track. The 2020 Cup Series champion is looking to score a victory to have a win in six straight seasons. He missed the spring race in March due to injury.

Byron's No. 24 Chevrolet will sport the colorful Axalta paint scheme for the title race. This is Byron's first appearance in the Championship 4. Two of his six wins (the May race at Darlington Raceway and the July race at Atlanta Motor Speedway) this season have come with Axalta on the car. The 25-year-old driver scored the win in the spring race at the 1-mile track, getting the better of Larson in an overtime finish.
