NASCAR driver averages: Coca-Cola 600 a home game for Hendrick Motorsports

CONCORD, N.C. - Charlotte Motor Speedway is nearly visible from the Hendrick Motorsports campus in Concord, North Carolina. 

And the Coca-Cola 600, one of NASCAR's crown jewel events, has always felt like a bit of a home game for the 14-time, NASCAR Cup Series champions. 

Certainly, the numbers pan that out. The organization is the all-time leader in wins (12), poles (13), top fives (40), top 10s (64) and laps led (3,832) in NASCAR's longest event. Those statistics carry over when it comes to all races on the 1.5-mile quad-oval, with Hendrick Motorsports accumulating 21 wins, 19 poles, 71 top fives, 116 top 10s and 6,077 laps led, all tops in the sport. 

Among the team's current drivers, Kyle Larson has a Coca-Cola 600 win to his credit, leading 327 of 400 laps and sweeping all four stages en route to victory in 2021. That win was also notable as it was the 269th in Hendrick Motorsports history, giving it the most of any team in NASCAR. 

Chase Elliott also has a win on the Charlotte oval, coming in his championship season in 2020. A 500-mile race was held in May of that year as the COVID-19 pandemic shuffled the schedule and Elliott emerged victorious. 

Charlotte-native William Byron has three, top-four finishes in his last four starts in the Coca-Cola 600 and will look for a hometown victory on Sunday. Alex Bowman also has three top 10s in his last four Coke 600s.
