CONCORD, N.C. - While the stats sheet will show a victory for William Byron, it was much more than that for the Charlotte, North Carolina, native.
Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series main event was the first time Byron had won a NASCAR sanctioned race at his home track.

For the 200-lap race, Byron rolled off from the fourth position. On the opening start, he lost ground to the field when the No. 88 entry of Connor Zilisch struggled to get up to speed.
Despite losing several spots, Byron was able to take the lead through the middle portion of stage one and would hold it until the end of stage two. However, a speeding penalty under caution sent the No. 17 team to the rear before the final stage.
The final stage was filled with cautions, some benefiting the group and some hurting. On the first yellow flag, Byron had just pitted and was scored a lap down when the incident occurred. Although he was able to use the wave around, Byron was forced to start at the rear of the field.
Coming down to the end, another caution came out with 22 circuits remaining. Byron, scored 11th, chose to pit for fresh tires. The move would set up a trip to victory lane.
With a rash of yellow flags in the closing laps, Byron slowly made his way to the front, passing Justin Allgaier coming to the white flag. The win marks the second victory for the No. 17 entry this season in the Xfinity Series.
Tomorrow, Byron will again roll off from the fourth position, this time for the Coca-Cola 600.
