LONG POND, Pa. - Chase Elliott earned a top-five finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series main event at Pocono Raceway on Saturday afternoon.
Elliott led the field to green for the 100-lap race and stayed inside the top ten for the majority of the day. A flurry of cautions plagued the opening two stages, but keeping his nose clean, Elliott stayed ahead of the chaos and set himself up with great track position for stage three.
After restarting in the top five, Elliott climbed his way up front. He would pass Christian Eckes, Justin Allgaier and Jesse Love before chasing down race leader Connor Zilisch.
However, a caution interrupted green flag pit stops with 30 circuits left in the race. Zilisch, who had pitted two laps prior to the single-car spin by Garrett Smithley, leapfrogged Chase Elliott and restarted first with the NASCAR Cup Series veteran rolling off from the fifth position.
Back under the green flag, Elliott stormed to the lead and looked to be in control. However, contact with Allgaier on a late-race restart shuffled both drivers to the midfield. Ultimately, Elliott would recover to finish fourth.
Zilisch would go on to win Saturday's race at Pocono.
