SONOMA, Calif. - Both William Byron and Chase Elliott turned in productive runs at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday and continued to reap the rewards in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings.
Elliott cashed in yet another solid points day with a third-place run on Sunday. It marked his fourth top-five in the last five races as he continues his surge toward the top of the standings. With the showing, Elliott closed to within 14 points of Byron, who maintained the first position. The No. 24 Valvoline Chevrolet team was a fixture in the top 10 all day, scoring seven stage points before coming home eighth.
In terms of playoff seeding, Kyle Larson remained atop the heap with his three wins tied for the most in the series. He holds a 18-point advantage over Denny Hamlin.
Alex Bowman rounds out the Hendrick Motorsports contingent. The driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet is 12th in points and 15th in the playoff standings, 32 points above the elimination line.
