NASCAR Watkins Glen qualifying: Alex Bowman starts seventh, William Byron 10th

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – The NASCAR Cup Series returned to Watkins Glen International as stock car racing's premier series turned laps in practice and qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Hendrick Motorsports brought four fast Chevrolets to upstate New York. Alex Bowman set a lap time of 1:12.199, good enough for a seventh-place starting spot.

William Byron rolls off 10th for Sunday's race, setting a time of 1:12.215. Chase Elliott slotted into 20th with 1:12.465, and Kyle Larson starts 27th in the main event.
