CONCORD, N.C. - Hendrick Motorsports escaped Darlington Raceway and the Southern 500, one of the NASCAR Cup Series' longest and most grueling events, with three drivers still above the playoff cutline and a fourth within striking distance.
Now, for phase two.
The second race of the Round of 16 will be held this weekend at WWT Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Race time is set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday and the event will air on USA Network. Kyle Larson (+38), William Byron (+25) and Chase Elliott (+9) are all still on the good side of the elimination line with two races left to set the field of 12. Alex Bowman needs to make up just 19 points over the next two races to also secure a spot.
All four will have sporty looks when they take to the track this weekend as well. Larson (No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet), Elliott (No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevy) and Bowman (No. 48 Ally Chevrolet) are all back in primary colors while Byron will sport the Z by HP look on his No. 24 machine.
