RIDGEWAY, Va. - In a year designed to help Corey Day learn the ropes of stock car racing, seeing a track twice certainly has its benefits. Namely, a chance to apply the new skills you've learned at a familiar venue.

For Corey Day, that proved to be the case at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday night in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The race was his second in the division at the half-mile short track.

Earlier on Saturday, Day showed speed in practice. He posted the third-quickest lap of anyone in the division. However, an early qualifying run made posting a competitive lap time difficult. Day would start the main event in the 23rd position.

Despite the poor track position, Day would move all the way up to 10th in the opening stage. While he would fall back to 13th in the second stage, the No. 17 HendrickCars.com entry looked competitive in a field full of desperate playoff drivers.

By lap 112, Day had moved back up to ninth before he was involved in a an on-track incident. Under the yellow, crew chief Adam Wall opted to bring Day in for four tires. The repairs and changes allowed for Day to get back to the 13th position by the end of the night.

The result was an eight spot improvement to his first race at Martinsville in the spring. It was also Day's second career top-15 finish in the Xfinity Series. Check out the full finishing order below.
