Busch, Hendrick Donate Cali Winnings to Red Cross

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 27, 2005) – Kyle Busch may be young, but he showed a high level of maturity after winning his first career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race back on Sept. 4 at California Speedway. After driving his No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet to Victory Lane, Busch announced that his winnings would be donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. Car owner Rick Hendrick follow suit, also pledging his portion of the purse. On Nov. 19, Busch and Hendrick presented a check for $213,000 to Red Cross representatives in Homestead, Fla., an area that recently sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Wilma. “Like everyone else, I watched everything unfold on television and wondered how I could help,” said Busch, the 2005 Raybestos Rookie of the Year who was invited to discuss his donation on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” “I was fortunate enough to win the race at California and be in a position to help out the Red Cross. It was the least I could do.” Hendrick drove home the need for more donations. “The rebuilding efforts are ongoing,” he said. “It’s important that people continue to give blood and make donations to support these affected areas. “There will certainly be more hurricanes and even more of a need in the future. There’s still a long way to go.”
