BROOKLYN, Mich.- On Sunday afternoon, stock car racing's premier series ripped and roared around the high-speed circuit of Michigan International Speedway.
Kyle Larson kept his car up front for most of the day. A speeding penalty midway through stage two kept him out of the top ten for a moment, but he muscled his way back through the field.
The No. 5 team saved enough fuel at the end to finish fifth in the 400-mile event.

William Byron stayed in the top five for most of the race, only sacrificing his position to roll down pit road. The No. 24 crew raced their way back to the front each time.
Byron got a stage win in the second frame of the race when he battled Austin Cindric for the final ten laps of the stage. That momentum continued into stage three, where fuel saving came into play.
With 15 laps left in the event, Denny Hamlin moved into second and pressured Byron, who (like most of the field) was saving fuel. He fought hard, but had to peel off to pit road with two laps remaining for fuel.
Byron came home in 28th place but managed to secure the fastest lap point.

Chase Elliott was able to escape the hornets' nest that is the midfield with a fast pit stop following stage one. He restarted towards the front and wasted no time by taking the lead away from Ryan Blaney in the early parts of stage two. However, alternate strategies sent the No. 9 towards the rear.
Despite the setbacks, Elliott rallied back to a 15th-place finish.
Alex Bowman got unlucky in stage two when he was caught up in an incident on a restart. Although the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet was heavily damaged, Bowman walked away from the incident and was checked and released from the infield care center. He would finish 36th on the day.
Denny Hamlin crossed the line in first.
