NASCAR qualifying canceled: Alex Bowman second, Kyle Larson third in Daytona starting lineup via Cup Series metric

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The bad news? NASCAR Cup Series qualifying slated for Friday evening at Daytona International Speedway was nixed by weather.

The good news? That's just fine with Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet team. 

Bowman will roll off second in Saturday night's race with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson right behind in third after the starting lineup was determined by NASCAR's qualifying metric. William Byron, who locked up a regular-season points championship at Richmond Raceway last week will start eighth while Chase Elliott rounds out the group in 30th. 

Entering Saturday, Bowman is 60 points above the playoff cutline but must either make up 29 points on Tyler Reddick, avoid a new winner or win the race himself to punch his ticket into the playoffs next week. 

Saturday night's race is set for a 7:30 p.m. start and will air on NBC.
