CONCORD, N.C. – The race at Martinsville Speedway has been postponed to a later date, NASCAR announced Friday.
The sanctioning body said in a statement the events scheduled for May 8-9 at the half-mile track will not occur due to concerns over the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.
“Our intention remains to run all 36 races, with a potential return to racing without fans in attendance in May at a date and location to be determined. The health and safety of our competitors, employees, fans and the communities in which we run continues to be our top priority,” the statement said.
NASCAR added it will continue to monitor the pandemic to see when it will be safe for drivers and their crews to return to the live track.
Hendrick Motorsports will provide updates as more information becomes available.
