DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kyle Larson missed locking into the front row for Sunday’s DAYTONA 500 by .014 seconds. He will be part of Duel 1 with Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman, while William Byron will be in Duel 2.
Larson’s lap of 181.635 mph in the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was the third-fastest lap in the final round of qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. That will see him start second in Duel 1. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion will look to earn his 11th straight top-10 starting spot on a drafting track.
Chase Elliott was fifth in single-car qualifying (181.178 mph) in the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Elliott is one of six active Cup Series champions who has yet have a win in the DAYTONA 500. His best finish in the event was second in 2021 and he does have three wins on drafting tracks in the series. Elliott will start third in Duel 1.

William Byron was sixth in single-car qualifying (181.174 mph) in the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Byron’s first win in the Cup Series came in the summer race at Daytona International Speedway. He has three drafting track wins to his name and the 26-year-old driver will start third in Duel 2.
Alex Bowman was 17th in single-car qualifying in the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. That brought his record streak of six straight front-row starts in the DAYTONA 500 to an end. Last year, Bowman finished a career-best fifth in the DAYTONA 500 and was the first polesitter to place in the top five in 22 years. He will line up ninth in Duel 1 on Thursday.
Because of two failures in pre-qualifying inspection for the No. 48 team, car chief Ty Sipes was ejected for the Duel race and the team lost its pit selection for that qualifying race.

Joey Logano took the pole position and will be joined on the front row by Michael McDowell. This marks the first time since 2014 that a Hendrick Motorsports car will not be on the front row for the DAYTONA 500.
Hendrick Motorsports ranks first in top-five finishes (30), top-10s (51) and poles (16) in DAYTONA 500 history. The organization also has 16 wins in the Duel qualifying races, which are tied for the most among all teams. Their eight wins in the DAYTONA 500 are the second-most among all teams.

Wednesday’s qualifying session set the front row for the 2024 DAYTONA 500. Thursday’s Duel at Daytona races (7 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio [Channel 90]) will set the remainder of the lineup. The duel qualifiers also represent the first chance for drivers to earn points in 2024 with the top-10 finishers in each race earning as many as 10 points (for the win) all the way down to one point (for 10th).
The 66th running of the DAYTONA 500 is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
