NASCAR stats, driver averages: William Byron, Kyle Larson look for a second Phoenix win to clinch championship

CONCORD, N.C. - One thing about the current winner-take-all format in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4, every team in the garage has the same focus this week: victory lane. 

For Kyle Larson and William Byron, that obviously means a little more. Should either of them score a second win at Phoenix Raceway this Sunday, it would come with a title. For Larson, it would be his second. Byron still seeks his first. 

The good news for both is that aside from their previous victories in the desert (Larson's came in the 2021 Championship race), the duo have been solid throughout their careers at the 1-mile, dogleg oval. Larson is second (10.7) and Byron third (10.8) in terms of average finish among active drivers at Phoenix.

Larson's 10 top-five finishes in 22 starts are the most of any driver with less than 36 races run there. Byron's nine top 10s are tied for his most at any race track. 

As for Elliott, his Phoenix win also came in a championship effort in 2020. He's riding a streak of back-to-back, top-10 showings at the circuit. Alex Bowman, a Tucson, Arizona native, finished seventh at his home track this spring.
