CONCORD, N.C. – This weekend, FOX Sports 1’s Regan Smith sat down with William Byron to talk about the driver’s journey from iRacing to the NASCAR Cup Series.
Byron, who didn’t get behind the wheel of a race car until his early teens, got his feet wet in motor sports through the iRacing platform.
“I started racing on iRacing which is unique and very different than how other guys start racing,” Byron said. “I didn’t run go-karts as a kid, I didn’t really grow up in a racing family.”
Byron discussed the impact iRacing has had on his career and shared that it’s been an important tool in helping him get to where he is now.
“It’s really more of a tool, like a flight simulator,” Byron said. “It’s something you use to hone your skills at a higher level instead of just going on there and picking up a controller.”
