The Last Time: Talladega Superspeedway

CONCORD, N.C. -- On Sunday, the final race of the Contender Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup arrives at Talladega Superspeedway.

Earlier this season, Kasey Kahne led the four Hendrick Motorsports at the Alabama track.

A failed post-qualifying inspection sent Kahne to the rear of the field to start the 188-lap event. But he rocketed all the way to 18th by Lap 6, and moved all the way to 13th just seven laps later when the first caution flag waved.

At Lap 119, he was running in the top 10 with teammates Jimmie Johnson and then-le`ader Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Ultimately, he crossed the finish line eighth for what was then his third top-10 finish of the season.

Johnson's No. 48 Chevrolet SS suffered a late-race spin, but the driver managed to stay on the lead lap and ultimately finished 23rd, just ahead of Earnhardt in 26th. Jeff Gordon wasn't as fortunate, finishing 39th after getting involved in an early, multi-car incident.

This time around, advancing to the eight-driver Eliminator Round of the Chase will be on the line.
