WATKINS GLEN, N.Y - By virtue of a solid, fourth-place run and nine stage points at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, William Byron extended his advantage atop the NASCAR Cup Series regular season points standings.
Byron entered with an 18-point lead over Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott and kept his No. 24 RAPTOR Chevrolet clean all event long in stretching that advantage to 42 markers. Just two races remain in the regular season with stops at Richmond Raceway and Daytona International Speedway left.
Elliott, who came home 26th on Sunday, still has time to cut into that lead. Kyle Larson continues to lead the way for Hendrick Motorsports in the Cup Series playoff standings. His three wins have him in a tie for third with Christopher Bell.
