Hendrick Teams Up for `Make-A-Wish Wednesday`

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 12, 2002)—For the second consecutive year, Charlotte-based radio station Magic 96.1 is hosting “Make-A-Wish Wednesdays” throughout the entire month of November to raise much-needed money toward fulfilling the “wishes” of children with life-threatening illnesses.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Hendrick Motorsports will team with the station in support of the Make-A-Wish fundraising efforts, co-hosting an all-day open house featuring the Hendrick show cars and other attractions at the Magic 96.1 studios.

“We are extremely grateful to Magic 96.1 and Hendrick Motorsports for caring so much about these very deserving children,” said Gloria Scienski, executive director of the Central and Western North Carolina Chapter of Make-A-Wish.

Hendrick Motorsports president John Hendrick will be on hand, challenging fans to help raise money, while drivers Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Terry Labonte and Joe Nemechek will make call-in appearances with host “Boomer.”

The community is invited to stop by the Magic 96.1 studios at 801 East Morehead Street between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. for the open house and a rare photo opportunity with the Hendrick Motorsports show cars. Fans can have a picture made inside the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevy, the No. 24 DuPont Chevy, the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy or the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy for a $25 donation.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Central and Western North Carolina Chapter of Make-A-Wish, which is based in Charlotte, has granted over 1,200 wishes since 1985.
