HAMPTON, Ga. (Oct. 27, 2003) – Sunday’s scheduled NASCAR Winston Cup Series event has been postponed until Monday morning at 11 a.m. ET after rain drenched the 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The race took the green flag on Sunday, but quickly went under caution at Lap 33 due to the inclement weather. Six laps later, the red flag was displayed.
In his first start in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevrolet, Brian Vickers qualified fourth, but lost an engine during the initial laps. He will not compete in Monday’s rescheduled event.
Jimmie Johnson started the race ninth in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy, followed by Jeff Gordon in 19th in the No. 24 DuPont Monte Carlo and Terry Labonte in 32nd in the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Chevrolet.
Ryan Newman qualified on the pole, but Kevin Harvick will start from the point after assuming the lead before the race was red-flagged.
Monday’s event will be broadcast by TNT and PRN Radio, weather permitting.
