From 1998-2001 Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 2427 and the No. 24 DuPont team left quite a mark on the NEXTEL Cup road courses of Watkins Glen International and Infineon Raceway.

The Chevrolet first hit the track in 1998 and snagged the pole position for the race in Sonoma, Calif. Car No. 2427 and driver Jeff Gordon would go on to win that event from the top spot and began a streak of success that would last for the next four years.

When the NEXTEL Cup Series arrived in Watkins Glen, N.Y., for the August road course event the story was the same. Gordon and the No. 24 team won from the pole in convincing style.

The next year, the story continued as Gordon and his crew would again win both road course events with their victory in Sonoma coming from the pole position.

Car No. 2427 would go on to win two more pole positions in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup time trials at the California track in 2000 and 2001 before the Chevrolet was retired from service.

“I’ve learned that you must take advantage of opportunities and if the car is capable of winning and you don’t win with it, you’re going to be disappointed,” says Gordon about road racing.“ It’s all about taking a car that’s fast and capable of winning to Victory Lane.”

The history-making DuPont Chevrolet is now on display for fans to see up close and personal in the 24/48 shop of Hendrick Motorsports located in Charlotte, N.C.
