Race Against Gordon and Benefit Transplant Patients

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 5, 2005) - The Hendrick Marrow Program of The Marrow Foundation is proud to partner with The Jeff Gordon Foundation to host the Fifth Annual Time Warner Cable Jeff Gordon Go-Kart Challenge and “An Evening with Jeff Gordon” dinner.

These benefit events will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Charlotte.

“Special events are an important part of raising funds for the Foundation,” Gordon said. “I wanted to do an event that was different than the usual golf tournament or gala. The go-kart challenge is the perfect format as it allows me to have fun doing what I love and raise money for important cause.”

At the Time Warner Cable Jeff Gordon Go-Kart Challenge, corporate sponsors will have the opportunity to race alongside Gordon on a 1/3-mile road course at Victory Lane Indoor Karting.

Following the Go-Kart Challenge, Gordon will host an intimate dinner event at The Westin in uptown Charlotte, also sponsored by Time Warner Cable. “An Evening with Jeff Gordon” will feature the first-time meeting of a marrow donor and his transplant recipient.

“I enjoy having the dinner as a more serious contrast to the go-kart challenge,” Gordon said. “Racing go-karts is all about fun, but at the dinner we slow things down and look at the work of the Hendrick Marrow Program and how the funds raised are going to directly help transplant recipients and their families.

“It’s important to me that people understand why their support of the Foundation is critical to our designated charities.”

The Jeff Gordon Foundation was established in December 1999 by the four-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion to support children and families in need. The Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Marrow Foundation in partnership with The Hendrick Marrow Program, Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital at NorthEast Medical Center and Riley Hospital for Children.

Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, founded the Hendrick Marrow Program in 1997 as a fund of The Marrow Foundation. The Hendrick Marrow Program works with The Marrow Foundation to raise private support for its partner, the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).

The NMDP helps people who need a life-saving marrow or blood cell transplant by connecting patients, doctors, donors and researchers to the resources they need to help more people live longer and healthier lives. Specifically, the Hendrick Marrow Program raises funds to support donor recruitment and patient assistance.
